ADEL
The brief for this project was to create an Old Style typeface that blends together the soft silhouettes of the 1800s and elements from runic scripture from the old Norse times.
By taking inspiration from the clothes and architecture of the 1800s as well as Norse runestones, the goal was to create a typeface that is friendly, soft and unique.
A lot of 1800s buildings and clothing have rounded features and arches. It also feels very soft, elegant and light. When looking at runic scriptures, they have a lot of diagonal lines in most of the runes. Although they are harsher looking than the styles of the 1800s, the runic scripture also feels light, thin and in a way even a bit elegant.
The name itself takes inspiration from both the 1800s and the old Norse times, with Adel meaning nobility in Swedish.
